We have a number of regulars who didn’t mind that the place looked almost exactly like it did when we opened a few years ago. These customers have become our friends, and they frequently drop by for a trim or dye job even when it isn’t necessary. Sometimes they just come in for a rinse and blow-dry and a few minutes of idle gossip. We recently noticed that the neighborhood was becoming a hangout for younger people, and I thought we could tap that market if the place underwent a bit of renovation. We discussed the plan with the other employees and our manager, although what we were able to scrape up wouldn’t even buy a few coats of paint.
