I had been an avid photographer since I started high school, and translated that hobby into a semi-regular job. I would start sending photos to small-time neighbourhood newsletters, after which my work was spotted by a graphic artist. He told me to send a few of my portfolio shots to him, after which he hired me to shoot events for his website. I’ve met a few contacts at those events, although none of them really delivered on their promise to hook me up. My editor and mentor finally told me that I could work on a high-profile project of his – if I could get my mitts on a better camera.
